Expert Statements
Sami Komulainen, COO and EVP, Technology and Operations, Elisa
“AI is becoming a critical layer of digital infrastructure. Our goal is to bring AI closer to users, enterprises and data by advancing a distributed AI inference network in Finland. AI-RAN is an important step in that journey, enabling us to combine connectivity and AI on a shared platform and laying the foundation for AI-native 6G networks. The Europe's first Cloud AI-RAN call in live network demonstrates that for us, this vision is already becoming a reality.”
Ronnie Vasishta, SVP, Telecom, NVIDIA
“AI is moving out of the data centre and into the network. Together with Elisa and Nokia, we have shown how accelerated computing lets a mobile network run radio and AI on the same infrastructure, bringing intelligence to where data is generated and consumed.”
Emma Falck, President of Mobile Infrastructure, Nokia
“AI-RAN changes what a mobile network can do. By bringing connectivity and AI computing together in the network, operators can make their networks smarter, use infrastructure more efficiently and create new revenue from edge AI services. This is also the foundation for the physical AI era, when networks will not only connect the world, but help sense, understand and act on it in real time. Together with Elisa and NVIDIA, we are moving AI-RAN from demonstration towards commercial reality.”
Elisa Oyj Elisa advances its vision to bring AI closer to the users in Finland by deploying distributed AI infrastructure and preparing to validate the benefits of AI-RAN in a live commercial network with NVIDIA and Nokia in 2027. The company has completed Europe’s first live-network AI-RAN trials and deploys AI applications on distributed AI-RAN infrastructure.
AI-RAN combines radio access network functions and AI workloads on the same accelerated computing platform: the same computers that run the mobile network can now also run AI. This turns the network into a distributed AI platform, bringing computing closer to where data is generated and consumed. The result is faster responses and local data processing for AI applications, AI inference workloads and autonomous network functions.
