Meta unveils Petal subsea cable with 1 petabit-per-second capacity

Meta (NASDAQ: META) unveiled Petal, a 7,000 km US-France subsea cable expected to enter service in 2029 with 1 petabit per second of capacity, double today's most advanced transoceanic systems.
Meta will develop Petal in partnership with NEC, a specialist in subsea cable systems, and Sumitomo Electric Industries, a fiber producer. French telecommunications company Orange will support plans to land the cable on France's Atlantic coast.
